“here's the thing about wildflowers
they take root wherever they are
grow strong through the wind, rain, pain, sunshine, blue skies and starless nights
they dance, even when it seems there is nothing worth dancing for
they bloom
with or without you”
Alisha Christensen, Still Growing Wildflowers

Philosophy of care :: Meet the Midwife

I am Irina. I am a mother, a teacher, an acupuncturist, a midwife, and above all, a human trying my best to serve and connect to others. I believe in our inner wisdom. I believe in our intuition, our autonomy, our sovereignty, and our sacred rite of transition in maiden, mother and crone phases of life. I believe in our ability to serve and heal one another; we are medicine for each other.

I became a yoga teacher in 2011 because I was introduced to a practice of movement and pause. I fell in love with the quiet of meditation and connection to breath and body. This practice shifted me, and I couldn’t wait to share it with others.

I became an acupuncturist in 2014 because I was experiencing the deficiencies of conventional medicine in my own health journey. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbology and nutrition, I found healing. I continue to grow and learn as a practitioner on my journey to support women’s health naturally.  I am passionate about supporting our life phases through fertility, pregnancy, and into our wise women bodies.

I became a labor doula in 2018 after the birth of my first child. The experience of that pregnancy and birth completely rearranged me; it tore me wide open in the heart and I felt the calling to be part of that journey for others.

I became a midwife in 2023 because birth is sacred. Midwifery is spirit work; it is a sacred position of holding space for women as they step into motherhood and transform into a forever shifted version of themselves. This work can be confrontational, vulnerable, and deep, but it is, without a doubt, one of the most important rites of passage in our lives. I feel for me, midwifery is a privilege, holding space is an honor and a calling.

Individualized care and support, shared decision-making, and deep respect for each family’s choices and needs are all fundamental values in my care. I believe care in practice must be respectful, humble, comfortable, and accessible for families regardless of race, ethnicity, class, gender identity and expression, sexuality, immigration status, ability, body size, relationship status, family structure, and age. Midwifery serves to protect the sanctity of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

My mission is simple:

To share the message of love, healing, and kindness with you.

To help women with fertility • pregnancy • birth • postpartum • healing • living.

To support others in their autonomy and radical accountability.

To tap into and share the ancestral wisdom we all have deep within us.

We are powerful medicine for one another.

I look forward to us meeting each other on the path. In love and tremendous gratitude,

Irina
