TAINA COICOU

Licensed traditional Midwife

BIRTH EDUCATOR

I am a childbirth educator, birth assistant, and recently graduated midwifery student. My journey into the birth world was profoundly influenced by my grandmother, a midwife in Haiti, with whom I spent countless summers following. These formative experiences ignited my love for midwifery and instilled in me the importance of respect, community, and empowerment in the birthing process.

I hold such a profound reverence for pregnancy and birth. It is important to me that can I create and be a safe space for you whether that is in a class setting or at your birth. Pregnancy and childbirth are not just individual journeys but are deeply intertwined with the fabric of community support. I would be honored to be a part of your community as you embark on your journey.

Maitreyi Michel-Trapaga

Birth assistant

student midwife

My name is Maitreyi (Mai) for short. My relationship with birth has been nourished from a young age as I witnessed and heard homebirth stories from the women in my family. Deeply inspired by my mother and grandmother who guided my upbringing as TCM acupuncturists, I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a path that supported others in their healing journeys.

My own healing journey led me to movement practices such as Yoga, Mobility work and Thai Massage, all of which strengthened my mind/body connection, connected me with the power of breathwork and taught me to intuitively listen and trust my body's ability to heal and endure. These practices also re-instilled the importance of community; my teachers and practitioners guided me and held space for me in times of need.

In 2022 I was called into birthwork and chose to pursue midwifery school where I quickly recognized the overlap of these practices in the birth space and how deeply spiritual the nature of birth is.

I’m excited and honored to support others in deepening their intuition and mind/body connection as they prepare for their birth journey, and to support you as a member of your birth team.
